From Dubbing Hell, To Dubbing Heaven

This trick comes in from our friends at Big R Fly Shop in Great Falls,  Montana, from Sam Wike specifically. I know the pain he’s dealt with while tying with dubbing, but I never put my mind to it like he did to find a solution. If I find some free time this Christmas season (or maybe on Thanksgiving Day since my girls will be away and my family is all in Seattle) I may secure one of these boxes and make the fix. Or maybe I’ll just watch football and drink beer, catch the Redskins smoking the Cowboys, the Jets upsetting the Pats, and Detroit pounding the Texans. I digress. Think about a tying table without those plastic dubbing packs scattered everywhere. Get out the drill and have some fun.

EASY DUBBING DISPENSER
Sam Wike
I have 500 little packs of different dubbing and I like to use about 40 of them. Every time I sit down to tie flies, I create a huge mess. They do make the little dubbing dispensers that hold around 8 to 12 different dubbings but then, I would have all kinds of those sitting around. I realized that I would need to manufacture my own solution. I decided I would share because this has worked out really awesome and fits perfect in my old boat bag which has been repurposed as my travel fly tying bag.For $19.99 we carry the deep boat boxes.
Drill about a 1/4 inch hole in the bottom where the soft plastic is.

I labeled the top with masking tape so that I would know what brand and exactly what color I use. READ MORE
