Scientific Anglers Tippet Material and New Tippet Spools

Scientific Anglers, which has been a great supporter of my work over the years, offered some new tippet spools this past spring, and they worked well for me this summer and fall.

The new spools offer a very slim profile so that they pack easily into a vest of pack. The centers of these spools are free wheeling and can be set into two positions. If you pop the center hub out the spool can clip into another spool. When its retracted you get that super-thin profile. The actual spools are UV treated to protect the tippet material. And the spool also harbors a built-in cutter. That came in handy when my nippers were swimming somewhere in my fanny pack this year.

Each spool of tippet, 0X to 8X, carries 30 meters of tippet and last a long time. And each spool is color coded so you can easily identify which spool you should pull off of when lengthening out.

The fluorocarbon spools run $17.50 each. The freshwater and saltwater spools cost $4.99. Check them out. If nothing else, I bet you’ll like that built-in cutter and your dentist won’t have to ask, yet again, are you biting your fishing line? Order online here: Scientific Anglers
