The Farmed Salmon Debate Goes On

Thought I’d let you know that the farmed salmon post I ran last week drew more than a thousand unique visits to Angler’s Tonic that day alone. And judging by the comments I’ve received, it looks like it’s a topic many of us are passionate about.

That’s great to know and it’s exactly why I made the post—I wanted to see how keyed-in people are to what’s going on with fish raised in feedlots and what it is doing to our wild salmon and steelhead runs.

The debate is not over. Look for many followups on this subject this later winter and spring. And I’ll keep you posted on whether Jax makes the big leap and decides to lead with wild Alaska salmon on its menu instead of the inferior and unhealthy feedlot impostors. In the meantime, I came across this cartoon in the New Yorker and thought you should see it. I think it speaks to the same mentality of chefs and restaurants that serve farmed salmon—the easy way and the wrong way.

The caption in the New Yorker read, “Let’s go with farm-raised salmon tonight.”
