Casting for Recovery is a great group of people who help women deal with cancer, with an outlet through fly fishing. To show their support of the cause, Abel just released a sweet Super Series 5N large arbor model adorned with the Casting For Recovery logo. Abel will now donate $100 to CFR for each reel sold. Looking for a great reel, with a unique finish, and want to do something good for the world in the process? Buy one of these reels. The cost is $700 but $100 of that is tax deductible.
Here’s the Dirt: Casting for Recovery, a 501(c)3 non-profit, was founded in 1996 in Manchester, Vermont, the brainchild of a breast cancer reconstructive surgeon and a fly fisher.
The organization “provides an opportunity for women whose lives have been profoundly affected by the disease to gather in a natural setting and learn the sport of fly-fishing. Just as importantly, the retreats offer an opportunity to meet new friends, network, exchange information, and have fun.
“Casting for Recovery weekend retreats incorporate counseling, educational services, and the trained facilitators that staff each retreat, including a psycho-social therapist, a health care professional as well as fly-fishing instructors and river helpers,” according to Lori Simon, executive director.
Abel reels are precision machined from 6061-T651 cold finished aerospace grade aluminum with Teflon® sealed bearings and utilize a cork drag system made entirely in the California factory. The Super 5N Large Arbor will handle both 5- and 6-weight flylines.
The Abel Super Series 5N Large Arbor fly reel will feature a –
- Custom CFR purple with matching CFR pink handle, drag knob, and foot;
- “To Fish is to Hope” custom engraved drag knob; and
- CFR logo and pink ribbon fish on the spool.
The reel with custom options would normally retail for $875, however the Casting for Recovery version is $700 of which $100 is tax deductible. CFR reels are available directly from Abel at www.abelreels.com or through select authorized dealers.
