What’s Your Take, On Taking A Giant Brown Trout.

I had to laugh last night when this comment came to the site, regarding a post that I penned about a fish that a friend caught and killed this past summer.  I’ll post the comment first, then my response. I’d love to know what all of you think about this. Have fun with it. GT

COMMENT: REALLY? You condone FishPorn like it was the next best thing (what, after sex?)! These EGOCentric Porn Pics indicate a complete lack of, Adults in the Industry (of fishing), educating any/all persons (who fish) that these are the ONES to RETURN to whence they came . . . the Breeder Brood, for the sport to continue & grow! For Her the “reward” will be (hopefully) just a fleeting moment, if not, the damage has been done, and she has (perhaps) lost the opportunity to learn what is MORE important in a philosophical (and real) sense – regarding the Natural World and “Mans” role in it ! . . . and this is “the rest of the (sad) story,” good day.

MY RESPONSE: Dear FlyFinaticLou,
This really doesn’t merit a response, but I’ll accept the hasty responses along with the intelligent ones. Hey, really, what planet did you come from? One of the joys of fishing is sharing images of the catch with other like-minded people, including (who knew!) adults. Certainly it makes sense to return mature spawning fish to whence they came (by using whence I feel like I should put on a wig and review the Declaration of Independence or something). This is especially true when catching naturally reproducing fish in rivers and streams. Lakes are a bit different as they are stocked in Montana whereas streams are not. So, this fish may have been a hatchery raised individual that is now swimming around with native cutthroats and threatened bull trout. Ever think about that? Maybe taking a non-native fish out of that equation is a good thing. How many bull trout fry has that fish eaten? Plenty, I would guess. How many more will it eat? None. That’s the answer. None.
Anyway, when my friends and family take a fish it’s not without putting a lot of thought into it. And that was the case with this one. It fed half a dozen people well, people who ate it without regret because they actually understood the situation.
Now, about the sniping at a kid. Dude, you just don’t get it. If I were you I’d make that call to the doctor and ask for that little blue pill they make these days, or something else, whatever’s needed to combat your discontent. Life is short, bro. I wouldn’t waste it being jealous and mad.
