Them Apples
Note from Montana
The Loot...I thought I would at least share what it's like to live in the northern Rockies during fall, when the weather can be bright, sunny, and warm, or downright brutal. Right now it's becoming downright brutal. Which means, if you have fishing plans encompassing the next few days you better hold off.
Here's the deal: some cold weather is shuffling out of Canada and by Friday night the temperature is expected to drop to two degrees at night. The first part of the storm hit yesterday, just about the time I'd scheduled to pick the apples off a neighbor's tree. I've been watching those apples all summer and fall and wondering why my neighbor would let them go to waste. And then, Tuesday night, she called over the fence and said, "I'm headed to North Carolina. If you'd like those apples, feel free to pick them." So, at 5 p.m. yesterday I braved that tropical Montana weather and conducted my apple harvest.
Thought some of these photos might entertain while offering a visual of what Montana might look like for the next few days. So, what's the answer to the fishing dilemma you ask. I'm headed to Idaho, where the weather is supposed to be significantly warmer, to camp out and fish steelhead on the Clearwater River. Notes when I get back.

Seen on the Clearwater
Seen and heard
Oh, yea, you saw me, falling off a rock I'm sure. Regarding the anchor, sorry, but when a single boat loads up on fish someone has to encourage a move downstream. You two were sweeping up the sea. You had to go.
Did manage to hook three and land none. My steelhead angst, for sure. Landed a small king which was cool. Saw the dark and seedy side of the Oasis. Saw the dark and scary side of the Clearwater Club. Sang Roadhouse Blues on stage at the Oasis with some blonde vixon ... oh conk conk.
Glad to hear you guys had a blast. Sorry again about the anchor. The one you used after I offed your original one was actually way cooler than that ratty metal triangle you had hanging off the back end.
