Brown Trout After Dark

This isn’t something I do every day, but every once in a while I brave the dark and the possibility of bumping into bears or snakes or whatever else crawls around at night and has the ability to bite, and I throw for browns.

That was the case the other night when I visited some small lakes in southwest Montana, on a whim, and fished into the dark. Saw several good fish rise and as dark settled I continued to hear random rises. Hooked a couple good fish and lost them but a friend, Dan Summerfield, hung on to a nice fish and managed to land it by getting prone and lifting the fish up a steep bank.

Definitely saw some better fish roll and I’m thinking that a return trip, during the day, with sinking lines and a variety of leech patterns is in order. Thought you might enjoy these photos.

Did I mention that the wind blows in southwest Montana.

Nice afternoon rainbow and storm near Deer Lodge.

I think it's a brown.

Oh yea, that's a brown in the dark.
