Take Giants and Point Spread in Super Bowl XLVI

Alright, the New England Patriots are favored by 2.5 points in Super Bowl XLVI, but I’m telling you to bet the Giants. That’s what I’m going to do and here’s why:

If you would have asked me if the Giants were going to be in the Super Bowl last fall I would have said no way because my Seattle Seahawks beat the Giants in week five. I remember thinking how bad the Giants must have been to get smacked by the ‘hawks during yet another down year for my home team. And then something strange happened; the ‘hawks went on a roll and some people said if they had made the playoffs (playoffs?) they’d be playing in the big game this Sunday and not the New York Giants. Believe what you want on that one, but it shows that the Giants were beaten by a good team and that that loss shouldn’t have been so damning.

Hmm, where have I seen this before? Oh yea, this is Tom Brady crying during his loss to the Giants in Super Bowl XLII.

After that loss the Giants beat Buffalo and Miami, which isn’t saying much, but then they slugged it out with New England and burned them 24-20, in New England. After that they blew it bigtime by losing to the 49ers, the Eagles, the Saints, and the Packers, in consecutive weeks. But look closely at that debacle—the 49ers could beat any team any day; the Eagles were a better team in the second half of the season; the Saints could beat anyone; and at that time the Packers were the best team in football. If you take away the Saints game, the Giants lost those games by a combined 17 points, all one-score games that they had a chance to win. After that the Giants won three of their final four games to wind up the season at 9-7.

What really makes me think the Giants will win the Super Bowl is that New England shouldn’t even be playing in the game. They have an immaculate 10 game win streak, but they would have lost that NFC championship game on January 22 if that knucklehead from the Ravens hadn’t dropped the ball. Or did he? In addition, Tom Brady doesn’t seem to be the miracle worker he used to be and he could be without his top target this Sunday, the Patriots stud tight end, Rob Gronkowski, who’s suffering from a serious ankle sprain. And I’m not buying into the lie anymore: a lot of people say that Bill Belichick, the Patriots obnoxious, self serving coach, can’t be beaten if he has two weeks to prepare for another team. And my response? Look what happened the last time these two teams played in the Super Bowl.

Beyond all of that, I just have a feeling that Eli Manning, the Giants quarterback, is playing way more confidently than his counterpart and is focussed on winning another Super Bowl and maybe taking over the “best quarterback in the family” title from his brother, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Payton Manning.

Do what you need to do this Sunday, bet the Patriots and follow your bookie’s lead if you want, but when the Giants throw the smackdown on Brady—yet again—remember that you had a chance to go against the grain. Now I’ll cross my fingers.
