Gaspe, Grand Casapedia Day 2

Biggest of the day.

Pretty amazing to walk into some of these runs to see dark shapes scattered across the bottom, sometimes five or six side-by-side. In some cases there a hundred or more fish in each run and if you’ve fished steelhead in the Northwest, this would be the dream situation. But we’re fishing Atlantic salmon. I can’t say it’s easy, but if you can see fish you’re going to find out a way to catch them and that’s what Continue reading

The Sawmill Gulch Spider Attack

Rolling down Sawmill Gulch, probably going 25 mph and I look up and this thing is hanging in mid-air right in the middle of a super narrow single track trail. I wanted to lock up the brakes on my mountain bike because obviously I was going to hit this thing, but all I could do was scream. Thing hit me right in the chest and I leaped off Continue reading

CONTEST: YOUR Top 5 Northwest Steelhead Fly Fishing Tips

I can spew info on Northwest steelhead all day, but I know my audience and some of you get to spend more time chasing chrome than I do, these days. Yukon Lake trout video

This is just as amateurish as the last video, but this one is of a lake trout. Had a 35mm hanging around my neck and just hoped it was pointed in the right direction. At least you get to see how easy it was at times to catch lake trout and whitefish in the Yukon. We targeted these Continue reading

Yukon Pike Video

This isn’t professional grade. But I think you’ll get a Thursday laugh by watching this. I shot this, amateurishly I admit, while fishing at Kluane Wilderness Lodge on Wellesley Lake Yukon Territory in June. This is a little pike in comparison to what we were catching, meaning northers up to 40 inches or a little more. Have a laugh.

Igloo’s Yukon 70 Cold Locker: The Weekend Test

Ok, got to spend some serious camping/fishing time with Igloo’s new Yukon 70 Cold Locker, which showed up on my doorstep last week and travelled with me to Idaho’s Iron Lake, at 8,000 feet, this past weekend.

I loaded the cooler on Friday afternoon with a block of ice and with all sorts of goodies, including a mass of R-dogs and Corona’s for me, and enough food and juice to Continue reading

Sunken RO Driftboat in The Yellowstone River

Our friends over in Bozeman with RO Driftboats could use your help. They dumped a boat in the Yellowstone this weekend and haven’t found it. If you were/are floating there, chucking hoppers and droppers for big browns, keep your eyes open for this boat. I haven’t been told there’s a reward for information, but knowing the RO crew as well as I do, I’m sure you’ll be adequately compensated in one form or another. Here’s the info from RO’s facebook post:

This weekend a Tan bottom with Evergreen sides Deville was sunk on the Yellowstone River on the town stretch. The boat sank on 8/31 and after an unsuccessful attempt Continue reading
